Drift Diver
Currents are a continual factor when planning dives, particularly in our local area. If until now your experience has been that currents are something you fight to swim against; drift diving will give you a whole new perspective. Drift diving grew out of the philosophy, "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em".
Drift diving gives you a real adrenaline pump. In Swansea Channel, the current rips you along far faster than you could swim, or even cruise with a DPV (diver propulsion vehicle), sailing you along effortlessly. Some divers compare drift diving in clear water to hang gliding or horizontal sky diving - but no airplane needed and you don't have to worry about your chute opening.
To enroll in the Drift Diver course, you'll need to be at least certified as a PADI Junior Open Water Diver (or equivalent) and at least 12 years old. The course consists of two open water drift dives, which can be done on the same day. The PADI Drift Diver course covers topics including:
- The planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards of drift diving.
- Special equipment like floats, lines, reels.
- Proper procedures for buoyancy-control, navigation and communication.
- Site selection and overview of aquatic currents causes and effects.
- Techniques for staying close to a buddy or together as a group.
So call Aqua Zero Dive Centre today and you'll soon have the adrenaline pumping on the "woz dive".
