Equipment Servicing & Maintenance

A reminder for people who own their Scuba Equipment. Your regulators and gauges should be serviced every 12 months or 50 dives. So rather than wait until the day you need it, do it now! It is also just as important that your cylinder valve gets at every second year to make sure it operates smoothly and the burst disc isn't overly worn. This is usually done when it is due for hydrostatic testing.

A Note on Regulator Servicing

All scuba diving regulator manufacturers recommend no more than 50 dives or twelve months between services. Why is this?

Diving regulators are designed to provide a reliable air flow at high or low tank pressures and at all recreational diving depths. Combine this with immersion in highly corrosive salt water and it poses some difficulties. Several of the parts inside your regulators are made of rubber (O-rings, Seats, Diaphragms) and are designed to be disposable. These parts will eventually wear out and need to be replaced annually, otherwise there is no guarantee that they will not fail during a dive.

Salt build up and corrosion are also a problem. When we service a regulator we use an Ultrasonic Cleaner to break up corrosion and prevent permanent damage to more expensive metal components. In the long run it is cheaper to have regular services done than try to extend the time between services or wait until a problem occurs. Many brands offer lifetime warranties and free parts for life program as long as the regulators are serviced annually. Please ask one of our staff if you need more information about your regulators or their servicing.
